Dream a Dream For Me

As stated in the earlier parts of the blog, I began this beauty when my oldest daughter was still with us. My daughter, Heather, was an inspiration in my new found creativity. I hadn't sewn in years. I finished her and then suddenly Heather got the COVID virus and 4 days later, she was gone. I couldn't even think of anything that would carry me through my grief. So I put this beauty up in my home and just carried on with my tutoring and homeschooling work.

This darling that I call, Dream a Dream for Me has a full hand-beaded bodice that took several weeks to complete. I started with this after having sketched out my thoughts and ideas. Once I had the bodice done, I dug out all of the materials that I had ordered. I began with the underskirt which is made completely out of layers and layers of tulle to make the circular skirt stand out. I then cut out a big circle and a center for the waste, out of silk, to lay over the tulle. On top of the silk I laid a layer of sparkling organza.

Once the skirt was made, I slipped on the bodice to the doll and sewed the back of the neck to her. All of my dolls dresses are sewn directly to the doll. They are only for display and not for play. I take much time to pick the doll, the color hair and complexion, so I feel that to sew the dress to the doll shows my intricate plans for each doll and dress. No need to remove it. After the dress was sewn to the doll, I then began taking lace to place one more shorter top layer and a long train. Next step was to make the veil out of the rest of the tulle. The last touch was to add a Swarovski crystal belt. I had some left over so I added the to the crown of the veil! I love this beauty and these dresses have become my therapy in my sadness that is turning into joy.
