Marina - Belle of the Navy Ball

So the colors inspired me. I love pinks and blues together and I have been dabbling in and practicing using lining. I saw other doing it on a sewing group that I am in, so I have been trying my hand at it. I started with the bodice. Afterwards I cut out the skirt and lined it. I didn't have any trouble doing it, so I continued - not really knowing how she would turn out - BUT I knew how I wanted her to turn out. AND SHE DID! The skirt overlaps so that you can see the beautiful lining. I also made a tulle underskirt (OF COURSE - LOL) so that the dress would stand out a bit. The back train is so pretty, I think. I embellished her with three flowers - two blue on the front and a pink one on the train. It actually didn't take me very long to do her. I think I am getting faster as I create more of these. I just don't want to get sloppy.

Once I was satisfied with the dress, I made her headpiece and the drape/shawl. Both of these were the easy part. The drape is a long rectangular piece of the striped blue and the lining is, of course, the same beautiful lining as the dress. The headpiece is a white flower with a smaller blue flower (like the one on the waste) on top. I was so flattered when someone in the sewing group I belong to said that it reminded her of Bob Mackey.
