So, I belong to a Facebook Sewing Club, which is so much fun. Occasionally we can take on assignments. this assignment was a contest to see who could make the best queen. OK< OK so I didn't win, but that's no reason to cry, because she was born out of that. I am sure you can believe that this queen is extremely heavy. Not because of body weight, oh NO, a queen stays fit and trim. She has a ton of rhinestones on her. She took me several weeks, if not a month, to make. I took her to the beach house over the summer and worked on her in the evening. I began with the skirt and then attached the bodice. The rest unfolded from there. Underneath are layers and layers of silver tulle. The bottom pleats come from one long piece of 2 inch (or so) fabric that I just kept folding and sewing, folding and sewing. At times, I stopped to iron the pleats down and tacked it along the very bottom also. The rhinestones were added last and then the train on top. I gathered her hair and pinned it placing her crown on top. You can imagine how it feels to place a crown as a final touch. The crown is sewn to her hair.
